Every year I make a list of New Years Goals (not resolutions, goals). One of those for 2016 was to participate in handgun and carbine training courses. Just over half way through the year I’ve completed that Goal. I took all of the courses through Dead Center Indoor Range in Buford – I participated in 3 of 4 parts of a Handgun Course earlier in the year, and on Saturday I took their full-day tactical carbine course.
My goal in this post is to share some about my experience, what I’ve learned about the importance of training, and my take on the training from Dead Center. Rather than make one obnoxiously long post, I’m going to focus mainly on the AR/Carbine course and break this out into sections:
1) My background/prior experience and why I made training a priority this year
2) The instruction provided and what it focused on
3) The gear I used (only because I think it is relevant to point 4)
4) My take-aways, and how this training has shifted my mindset. (I’ll address the “value” of the course in this section)
