WTF? Is "ghosting" the new normal??

After a few idle years, I recently got back into wheelin'-n-dealin' here on the ODT, and one thing that seems different than a few years earlier, is how often people end a discussion or negotiation by simply ghosting, and leaving you hanging, till you finally figure out they're not coming back.
And it isn't just the newbs, I've had it happen a number of times from guys with lots of positive feedback, right in the midfle of perfectly amicable negotiations, which makes it all the more peculiar.
Anyone else seeing this more frequently, or am I just on a hot streak of jerks?View attachment 7875447

Ain't nothing new it's been like this for a long time just happens more often as the number of members increases.

I give em 24hours. If they dont respond they go to the next person in line!

It goes right along with today’s lack of respect also.
It used to be that someone’s word meant something, especially if they wanted their rep in tact.
Now it doesn’t mean squat.
Oh what a wonderful time we live in….
At this point in my life I have to wonder if it was always that way. Only a small few that hold theirselves to a higher standard

The ODT is turning into marketplace
^^^

I think this is it... you could substitute Craigslist or eBay for Marketplace, but the result is the same.

People aren't invested in the community of those sites, it's all just about the deal. Neither side feels any particular responsibility to the other.

I think that mindset is spreading here as well, even with people who have been here a while. You get used to the slap-dash way of doing things on those sites and it carries over.

Maybe, but IMO, it wasn't. While it's admittedly easy to succumb to the, "things were better back in my day" syndrome, I seem to recall this site being a real joy to use, with an almost odd sense of commraderie.
I used to do local Armslist meets, and turned many of those guys on to the ODT, citing the positive differences in them (and was surprised at how many never even heard of it!), and I specifically cited the feedback/rating system, as a major factor. A lot of these new guys don't seem to much care about cultivating a good rep, and the benefits it brings to the entire process.
In my earlier years here, I don't recall seeing ads that stated, "if you don't have 10 (or 20) completed deals, and ZERO negative feedback, don't bother replying". We see that sentiment expressed fairly often now. That alone is indication that the climate here has actually shifted.
