WTF? Is "ghosting" the new normal??

After a few idle years, I recently got back into wheelin'-n-dealin' here on the ODT, and one thing that seems different than a few years earlier, is how often people end a discussion or negotiation by simply ghosting, and leaving you hanging, till you finally figure out they're not coming back.
And it isn't just the newbs, I've had it happen a number of times from guys with lots of positive feedback, right in the midfle of perfectly amicable negotiations, which makes it all the more peculiar.
Anyone else seeing this more frequently, or am I just on a hot streak of jerks?View attachment 7875447
Dealing with it today again, newbs don't know you can "see" when they've been logged on and they were replying to other pm's

Does negative feedback have the same meaning it did 5 or 10 years ago? Looks like it doesn't.

If someone has a low feedback score, they can list a few things cheap and somebody on here will still try and deal with them. I've seen it before - member has 3 good/2 bad and guys still want to buy his stuff. So there isn't a negative consequence for being flakey and not showing up.

Guys also know they can drop an account with several negatives and create a new one and carry on.

All fair points, but, while they can ditch an account with bad feedback, they can't fake an account with good feedback, which, as I mentioned earlier, has significant benefits, that they can't capitalize on.
Having learned the hard way years ago, my policy on driving to meet Armslist/Craigslist members, is about 15-20 minutes, tops. The likelihood of them being a jerkoff is too high to risk driving any further.
On the other hand, I've had people hop in their car and drive all the way down here, from friggin' Alpharetta, based largely on my feedback.
I have wired unretrievable money to ODTers I've never met or even spoken on the phone with, prior to them shipping me something, based solely on their volume of positive feedback.THATS what makes this place special.
Sure, the jerkoffs can still make deals, especially if they and another interested party both live fairly close by (as is the case with most ODTers being in/around Atlanta), but virtually nobody is meeting halfway between Atlanta and Albany with a low/bad feedback member, regardless of how tempting the deal might be.

Maybe the flakes don't care about building a good long term reputation and just want to sell things as they go. So a new account each year doesn't matter. :noidea:

Everyone just went home is all. Sensitive, reporting (red flag type behavior, Dan Crenshaw type ****), overpricing, and just overall sucking off totalitarianism lol.
