Going to try my hand at making a basic book shelf, figured for the price the store wants I can make my own and have enough left for a couple of six packs.

Looks like the home depot here has either Rough Green Western Red Cedar or kiln dried yellow pine, with the ceder double the price. Any particular reason I should go with one or the other?

Cedars color really pop's with a clear coat, Just no contest when it comes to appearance when, making a choice between the two. Cedar wood is much harder and termites don't bother it.

I ended up getting some 2 x 8 ceder pieces for free so I'll try a small project with it first and depending how that looks go from there. If nothing else it smells great.

I looked at the oak but at 6-10 bucks a ft it was a bit much to start with.

Will post pics when finished.
