My first was from JC Penney. Marlin 336C. Came with a scope, mounts and a box of shells. Total was $96. I bought a 12 pack with the change from a hundred on the way home. 1976. Those were the days.
There’s still a few active Hams on ODT. Your antenna with that 7300 will be enough for contesting during this really great sunspot period. I can work the world on 10 meters with only 5 watts and a dipole. 20 & 40 are also wide open. If you can bang out CW the sky’s the limit. If you are in the...
In for “ham crap” for sale. What do you have?
Also, to address OP’s question - these radios have a bad reputation but work well for me. Most people (Hams and non-Hams) don’t take the time to learn how to program them. I have several and they work great with local repeaters on the VHF Ham...
Did this in 2018 - it was a good trip. We did the 2 week land/sea with Princess. Flew to Fairbanks for a few days, then to Denali for a few days then rode the glass topped train to Seward (best day of the trip). Once on the ship spent a week stopping at several ports and a full day in glacier...
I’ve been there many times, but not lately. Bench is very sturdy with a variety of bags & rests to use. I think it’s $15/hr but it’s been a while. Their website likely has prices. Great place to shoot even if its cold or raining outside.
Great advice from Klif. In the last several years I’ve only seen 1 or 2 posts for HAM gear for sale on here. QRZ.com has a good swap meet section for used HAM gear. There’s also a Hamfest soon in Gwinnett. Google is your friend.
HT’s operate on VHF & UHF which are limited to line of sight. Long distance without a repeater is going to be difficult. If it’s an apocalypse type of SHTF then repeaters will be down. If it’s a several day weather related SHTF, then the UV5R is a great choice IF you take the time to learn to...
I spent all of last weekend pouring concrete & re-enforcing the poles holding up my dock because of the damage by these boats. Last year there was a petition to only allow them downstream of 48 bridge. I hope that goes into affect soon. They are causing a lot of costly damage on Lake Wedowee.
