So I just loaded my first set of rounds earlier today!! I was going extremely slow so as make sure that I was not making any mistakes. Took me about 3 or 4 charges to get to the 4.2gr that I wanted to load to. Seated them at 1.075" OAL, fired 10 through my G19 and they fired and fed great. So...
I backed up the seating die to 1.075" and also backed up the crimping die about a quarter-ish of a turn, and the hourglass is less pronounced than before. I got my Unique powder, so I'll be starting to make some live rounds here either tonight or tomorrow starting around 4.2 and going up to...
So from what I have read, the reason for the hourglass shape is that the carbide dies are not tapered, and they size the entire case to the width of the mouth, and when the bullet is seated, it expands the case down to the bottom of the bullet.
I have yet to find any info saying that a small...
The few test rounds that I have seated and crimped came out in a little bit of an "hourglass" shape. I have gone searching over the internet and have found that people have attributed it to the carbide die and that it is not tapered.
Is anyone else having the same problem, and if so, is it...
As much as I hate to, I'm gonna give some business to Bullseye this time. They have a 1lb bottle of Unique for $18, and I'll be able to have it to try out some loads this weekend. I may grab some H-38 from Bass Pro next week too just to have a different type of powder for testing different loads.
I've already got Lyman 49, got it yesterday. Going to get Hornady also and probably a third one. I was able to get the load data for my 124gr FP directly from Hornady, they emailed it to me.
I was able to scrounge around 50ish 9mm cases from the range tonight from bowling pin night only to...
So I went digging through the internets last night and this morning, and found some data supporting a OAL of 1.1 with the Hornady 124gr FMJ FP. Now just to find some info on powder charges... I'm going to pick up a Hornady manual this week.
Finally got everything set up and mounted tonight and ran my first round through the press (no powder or primer) just to go through the steps outlined in the manual.
I took a look at the bullets that I got in 9mm, as I would like to use them, and they are Hornady #3556 124gr FMJ/FP, but I can...
I also have read that Win231 is a good starter powder to load 9mm since it is a slower burning powder. Any other suggestions? I'll be loading behind a 124gr Hornady bullet
Wow, just looked on MidwayUSA to look into getting some powder for when I'm ready to try loading, and they want $25 HazMat fee plus $10 S&H for the powder. Are all websites like that?
If so, is there a good place in Gwinnett/Hall county to buy powder locally and avoid that HazMat fee?
Sooo.... I was able to get over to my in-law's house after work, and I got my early b-day present: My new (his old) reloading set up!! We unboxed his stuff out of the garage after being boxed up for around 10 years, and he had a TON of stuff. All in all, I got:
A Dillan XL650 progressive...
Can't complain about it being a good deal anymore... lol, just left the in-laws house for dinner and he said that he's gonna give it to me when I get a table set up for it. Now I'm looking forward to getting myself a reloading table.
What kind of set up is good for a reloading table that you...
My father-in-law told me today that he has an entire reloading set up that he would sell me for $450, and I just don't know anything about reloading and wanted to know if it was a good deal on it. He hasn't used it in years, and I'm sure he is giving me a good deal on it, but just checking...
