That's part of the ridiculousness. They can be ordered through the supply system and there are units that run nothing but PMAGs. The guys that use them obviously will not care, but that won't stop some POG from whining about it in the chow hall.

Government efficiency at its finest.
That's funny, because when I was there last week and they told me they couldn't give the FBI mag release out to the general public, I asked "Does it help if I'm military?" and he said "Unfortunately, no." They just need to pick a policy and roll with it.
It very well may be that it just depends on if your armorer chooses to enforce the policy. Just wanted to give my update, in case others were wondering.
Bumping this thread, was at Glock today and asked for the "FBI" mag release and was told they are not supposed to give them out to the general public. He was nice about it though.
Also mentioned the individual who was giving them out is no longer employed by Glock...
Just saw The Avengers...it was pretty good, my wife enjoyed it too. Scarlett Johansson was pretty fine. Anyway, there were Glocks everywhere in that movie, except for Samuel L Jackson who had an M&P. Just thought it was funny.
Another AR mag question:
You mentioned they were USGI, did they have green or orange followers? I ask because the USGI ones are starting to be issued with orange (no-tilt) followers. Not trying to make excuses for the AR but it does show the military is accepting the flaws of the original...
I was there 2009-2010. Honestly I can't remember how modified they were, only time I really saw them was in passing at a chow hall or something. I want to say they were generally newer (read, heavier lol)
When we went through the bigger FOBs we would occasionally see an active duty unit that had a couple. Usually they are used by the squad designated marksman (go through a school for that)
We definitely drooled over them though lol.
I used a 557.ar223. It uses AAs. If you use the 4 hour timer/auto shut off and don't keep your brightness really high it does fine. It also has an alert to let you know when it's getting low. Like I said, I carried extra batteries anyway for nvgs, vibrator, etc etc. I would do the same with...
I'm not sure where everyone is getting the bad battery life info. I think I only changed batteries once in my 12 month deployment (always carried extra though).
Sort of related: does anyone know if OD Glocks were ever sold as blue labels?
I'd dig an fde glock, but not for $300 more than what I pay for a black one.
