Actually you can run the Bob in a S/A as 2.800 is commonly used as the COAL. Some of the newer long heavy bullets might pose an issue of COAL. A 117gr factory load was offered within the 2.800 length..
Atscott got.it.. handloads for a 45-70 in a #3 ruger.. lightweight 18" barrel and a steel buttplate. .actually kicked like two mules...sold it within the month. I used to hunt with a remington custom shop model 7 in 350 rem mag. Rifle had a brown precision stock. Whole rifle is around 6 lbs...
Pretty much anything loaded with the Xtp and claiming 1000fps will be a solid load. Only caliber I do not use the HSTs in...penetration is as valuable as expansion in the 380
I would not free float the barrel. My experience with the featherweight was that they needed a pressure point on the forearm
. Pretty thin barrels on those rifles. Need the action bedded for sure. Can't hurt to properly crown it.
Another option for your Remington is 80% barrels. These are simply a short chambered barrel in the caliber of choice. I did this quite a bit before I learned to turn and chamber for myself. Barrel vice, finish reamer, nreqmer holder, receiver wrench and go gauge is what is needed. You can get...
Lanier( now central) H. S. was still an all boys and segregated public school when I graduated in 66. Strange but the schools in Bibb county were all boys or girls. Black or White. We had the largest battalion of ROTC cadets in the nation at right around 1000 cadets. Our armory was amazing...
Sadly the days of 3 position small bore are gone in HS, but I will say the level of participation I've seen with air rifles is very encouraging especially the number of women shooters. We on occasion, will shoot air pistol down at ole mill in Griffin where air rifles dominate. Fancy rifles...
Was the OP on central's rifle team by chance?? I shot on Lanier's high school team on the mid 60s( yep I'm old).. we shot Winchester 52s and Remington 40x rifles. All the Win T22 we could shot. Shot two years at Mercer with a super match 54 and thought I was in heaven.. lots of fine rifles in...
Oh man you should never had sold the 7 saum.. one of the most accurate factory guns I've ever owned..the 300 saum is no slouch either. Time to learn to reload.. my saum's are SS model 7s in brown precision stocks. The 7 easily shoots under 1/2 " at 100yds while the 300 will run around .600. Also...
how about someone who has owned a 20 gauge for say 7 years and shot the crap out of it on the dove field without one failure ever.. and mine is an aluminum receiver..
great little guns family owns 3 of them. best thing to do is to upgrade the chokes with some from Trulock down in south Ga...
Looks to be a Caspian slide based on the stamping on the disconnector rail and slide serration cuts. Nice way to screw up a good slide. Bead blast it off and start over.
Good choice on the 375.. I owned a 45-70 #3 for all of one month.. beat you to death with the steel butt plate and I'm not recoil adverse. Routinely hunt with a remington custom shop model 7 in the 350 rem mag bedded in a glass Brown stock. enjoy the #3
