  2. "Old Soldier's Special" Breakfast

When I make sausage gravy I pour it on potatoes, bread, biscuits - tastes good on everything, especially with a couple of fried eggs on top of everything! I call it my Weight Watchers Special breakfast - I watch my weight go up every time I fix it for breakfast:hungry:
  3. Liver Mush

Ingall’s grocery in Loganville has it - expect all of the Ingall’s would carry it. Poor man’s fois gras?
  4. Temps right, game on!

Chopped turnip and rutabaga roots in my vegetable beef soup - really tasty!
  5. Pheasant Recipe?

Filet meat and remove bloodshot areas. Dip in beaten egg, then flour. Brown in olive oil in Instant Pot, add 1 cup chicken stock and pressure cook for 20 minutes. Remove meat and whisk a couple of tablespoons of cold butter to make a sauce. Season to taste. Very tender!

  8. One of the $.99/lb Kroger butts

Bet you could pull the bones right out! I smoke ribs for @2.5 hrs at 225 then wrap in foil with some butter and brown sugar for another 3 hrs and they come out real tender. About how many hours total do you cook your ribs?
  9. One of the $.99/lb Kroger butts

Look great! Do you wrap in foil to finish?
  10. One of the $.99/lb Kroger butts

That looks great! I have to report that the ribs I smoked without mustard were also better than usual.
  11. One of the $.99/lb Kroger butts

I also used to coat with mustard, but today I put some baby back ribs on the smoker and made a rub using kosher salt, paprika, brown sugar, onion powder, a pinch of thyme and garlic. Pics and report later - hope they taste as good as yours looks!
  12. Let's see what's on the smokers today!!!

Have a couple of rainbow trout filets in the smoker now. Start them at 225 for @20 minutes then drop temp to @185 for 1 hour or until they feel done.

  15. Whole Beef Brisket on sale

Now that you mention it, I think you’re right! Old age is getting to me - but it sure was good!
  16. Whole Beef Brisket on sale

I agree- I would normally buy Choice brisket at $1.99 than Prime at $3.99! Price at Costco for Prime is fairly standard at $3.99 lb, so a good choice for when regular store prices are about the same:)
  17. Whole Beef Brisket on sale

Costco has whole Prime briskets regularly for @$3.99 lb. I bought a small brisket a couple of years ago and made corned beef from it and I have to say it was the most tender, buttery corned beef I ever tasted! Trouble is by the time I cured and smoked it, there was only enough for 6...
  18. Home made sausage - local supplies?

Easiest way is order them on Amazon - all kinds of casings for sale there.
  19. Cast iron skillet question

I agree - I tried flaxseed oil and I didn't think it worked as well as plain old Crisco or canola oil.
  20. Cast iron skillet question

I’ve cleaned pans like these by sandblasting and also by sanding with 100 grit wet dry paper and cooking oil. Sandblasting is easier. Once you are down to bare metal, reseason and you will be good for another 50 years!
