The American challenger for the America’s Cup. They had a terrible accident and totally wrecked the boat. All the other teams helped them out with spares, labour and technical assistance to get them back on the water. Racing starts again Friday.
After many days of night and day work to repair American Magic with the help of the other America’s Cup teams she is ready to hit the water and competing again. This is how they said thank you, sheer class.....
Terry Hutchinson the American Magic team leader has said all the other competitors have offered labour, technical help and any of their spares to help get America back in the water, that is real sportsmanship.
I hear you, I’ve sailed blue water boats for 50+ years so I know what you are saying but it’s a bit like going from prop planes to jets. For the last15 years I’ve sailed a high performance cat but these things are something else. Been loving watching the racing, mind you the New York Yacht Club...
Yes, these thing are going 40 - 45 knots, then add a gust of wind, one mistake and there goes tens maybe hundreds of millions of dollars. Glad I can’t afford it.

Guess who’s fault it is.
Beautiful yacht, I love traditional wooden boats, the craftsmanship is superb but the maintenance is murder. My last yacht that I sold last year sadly, old age, health and the maintenance was getting harder and harder. Been sailing for over fifty years I miss it.....
Relaunch after the refit...
I have been enjoying watching the pre Christmas races leading up the the America’s Cup next year. These foiling monohulls are brilliant to watch and achieve speeds of 50mph. It is on NBC, YouTube, Facebook and americascup.com even if you are not interested in sailing it is well worth the...
The America’s Cup has always had an upper wind speed limit when they stop racing. These are not sea going vessels, they are designed for speed, therefore lightly constructed.
It’s still sailing but under racing conditions, it’s just advanced technology, you still need sailing skills. However, seamanship to me is needed when you go out of the harbour into the wild blue yonder.
