1/7/23 Hunt

My wife, daughter, daughter's friend, and our 10mo son are all about to go sit. I told my daughter she can take this one if we see him.

Walked out of the house heading to church this morning (arms full-Bible, notebook, coffee, and bottle of water). I was trying to lock the door, when I heard some running in woodline 20 yards to my right. I saw a red fox running as it appeared to be chasing birds (my wife has several bird feeders around the yard). It ran through the edge of the woods and ended up about 4 to 5 yards standing in front of me (weird feeling). It made a brisk about face and ran back into the woods.

I sat down what all I was carrying and walked to the edge of the woodline. There was a bunch of running and thrashing in the near woods and I heard screeching and screaming by a small critter of some sort presumably grabbed up by the fox. I waited for a few and I saw the fox running in the woods and it appeared to be making its way back to my side yard. The fox came running back toward me and stopped approximately 15 yards away. I put a plus P Gold Dot through him. He immediately started whirling in a circle and hit the ground. I heard a noise about 10 yards away, diverted my attention and there was another red fox standing there. I looked back to the 1st fox and it was getting up so I sent another 9mm pill its way. It managed to slink off and joined the other one about 40 to 50 yards deeper in the scrub.

Seeing both of them standing there, I couldn't tell which one was which, so I sent another 9mm their way. They scattered. I trailed the blood about 200-250 yards in the woods and jumped it up, trotted away from me at a slow but purposeful pace (didn't allow for a follow up shot-too thick in the scrub).

I wish I could have collected the animal, but it wasn't meant to be today. Wasn't a deer tale, but figured I'd share it with those who might enjoy the story. Congrats to yall who have harvested today and best of luck to yall still out chasing em 🙏🦌🙏.
