heard something behind me, waited, waited, waited some more, thought it was a squirrel, this guys show up over my right shoulder
shot at 0937, wind was still and the smoke stayed in the air, heard him crash but couldn't see
piled up into a blow down

Congrats, good story. What rifle?View attachment 7914365
Shot my first deer since 2022. I thought he was bigger when I pulled the trigger but still proud of him. I shot him with my wife's grandfather's rifle that he left me when he passed away summer of 2023. Made me tear up a little bit. Sure do miss him and I know be played a part in taking this buck. First ever deer on "opening day".
Congrats buddy! I bet that he was right there with you.View attachment 7914365

Its a savage axis I bought him for his birthday in either 2020 or 2021 (I can't remember the year) topped with a leupold vx1 3-9x50. He never shot a deer with the rifle, last deer he shot was 2019 and let a pile of them walk. He was honestly one of the best hunters I've ever known.Congrats, good story. What rifle?
Thanks bud! I feel like he was as well! To see the buck not just once but twice this morning was a blessing. I know he's in heaven smiling down on me using his rifle.Congrats buddy! I bet that he was right there with you.
