10mm is pointless

This sounds like the arguments I hear verse 5.56 and the 7.62X51 or 7.62X39 and how 5.56 has no killing power, doesn't do any damage, have even had more then a few guys claim they can catch a 5.56 at X yardage with their bare hands, and I am sure they could, once, but have yet had anyone volunteer who has said that to stand at the 500 yard line with a catcher's mitt. Comes down to you don't want to get hit with any of them if you can help it because all can kill you just fine and with modern advances in bullet design and defensive loads the playing field has been evened out quite a bit from round to round, go back to FMJs only though then we can argue caliber choice, until then... Personally in a carry gun its whatever you are most comfortable and accurate with, caliber I believe is secondary to that and reliability of the platform, plenty of people are dead due to all of the rounds that have been listed so I really think the point is moot, 9mm is popular due to cheap practice ammo and lots of defensive loads, and while I don't care of .40S&W I don't see it going away any time soon.

I also happen to like the 10mm round, fun to shoot, very accurate, and recoil impulse, even with hot loads is less jarring due to the length of the cartridge compared to a .40 round in similar bullet weight. But if it comes down to a combat round I gravitate to 9mm or .45ACP because I am comfortable with them and have a lot of range time behind the round and guns then anything in .40.

As far as subguns H&K has chambered MP5s for .40 and 10mm and still manufactures sub guns in .40, the thing is most departments are going to 5.56 SBRs because of better terminal performance and subguns are really becoming a rarity except in special roles and even there they are losing ground to short barreled ARs more and more by the year.

Lets not forget the awesome UMP .40 . Many depts use those. Very awesome pieces of hardware.

This is the way I see it.

With a 9mm I can put two rounds center mass, in less than a second with both rounds touching. An effective double tap
With a 45acp I can put two rounds center mass, in less than a second with 4-6 inches of spread. An effective double tap, however not as good as a 9mm. My time is considerably slower between shots as well.
With 40, 10mm and 357sig, I can put one round center mass in less than a second, with the second round of the double tap not even on the target. Not a safe or effective double tap.

In a defensive situation, more than likely I am going to shoot until the threat is down. 9mm ensures me that my rounds will all hit target, and not the little old lady behind and to the left of the target.

That said, I grew up in New Mexico and I LOVE predator hunting. Yotes, bobcat, mountain lion and bear were the main things I hunted. I carried a Glock 20 with me everytime I went into the woods for the stopping power and capacity it offered me against a bear.

Was kind of referring to that as far as H&K still making subguns in .40. Don't know many departments who use them personally, a lot of departments I deal with who issue .40 still gravitate toward the MP5 in 9mm even though H&K has been trying to push the UMPs in all calibers, 9mm, .40, and .45ACP, for years, comes down to the MP5 just running so well in 9mm no one wants to change.

The way I see it ill take a 9mm , a .380, a .32 ACP anything over having nothing. Someone who feels a 9mm wont do it should really hit the range more often. All about shot placement. A chest shot with a 9mm beats a flat out miss with a 500 s&w magnum anyday.
You said it Sovietak474u! And anybody who dosnt think 9mm will do anything , should try getting hit by one.
If he was a better shot I would have lost my leg.

Let me guess......40cal is the best round? WHATEVER!!!! I bet you own a High Point

No High Point my fellow Cantonese! (sp?) and I didn't even mention .40 cal did I? My favorite carry gun is a .380. I just like to watch the hair raise up and the insults fly in pointless threads like this. Although I did get rid of all my 9's and .357 SIG lately it def wasn't because I didn't think those rounds can't do the job or because mines bigger than yours. I like the pistols I have and they just happen to be in .40 and .45 (aside from the one .380)

Some of the ones around here do. Henry county swat uses the UMP .40. Not sure what other depts. Im sure quite a few do. They can lay down some fire.

Excactly why I go EVERY week no matter what is going on. Proficiency>caliber IMO.

1600 fps hot loads ? Not so pointless to me :p mines used for a "woods gun". A little over zealous for self defense though.
