12/22 Update: I need a GOOD boat mechanic.

It works. It is less than $10.00 per can and will not harm your motor. Mix it in fuel but use enough to get the job done. On severe cases I have dripped it in carbs while running for a while and it works wonders.

Get a fuel line from a known to be good running boat and swap it out for yours.
What you are describing is classic pin hole leak or crack in the fuel line.
Even go as far as borrow a whole gas can and fuel line to test with. This will quickly identify or eliminate the fuel delivery system.

Mechanic still has it.
Pretty sure it's not a fuel line leak. No sign or smell of fuel anywhere it shouldn't be.
If they eliminate other possible causes, they have a compatible VRO on another boat they are going to try.
Update. It's finally near perfect!
The motor is running like a sewing machine again. Apparently the fuel problem was just a clogged fuel filter. I thought they had already checked it and so did the owner of the shop. He was not happy when the mechanic admitted he had not. Once they got it back this last time I think they had a problem admitting that's all it was and they kept it until I started pressuring them about getting it back. No repairs were done other than the fuel filter.
I took it out a few days ago and ran it hard. Top speed, medium RPMs and very low RPMs for a long time. It ran great. Everything else is working, too.
The Link system between the trolling motor and Sonar/GPS does exactly what it's supposed to and it makes following bottom contour very easy. The Lake Master topography data seems to be dead on.
Spot Lock is awesome and does away with the need to drop anchor. It's quick! See something of interest on the sonar, push the Spot Lock button on the remote and you might run a little past that spot, but it will take you right back too it... aggressively. If you're standing up when you push the button grab hold of something.
I need to get better at figuring out the best settings for the Sonar. I'm never sure if there are no fish or I just don't have it set up sensitive enough. Once I get on a good school of fish I'll be able to get those setting just right.
Next time out I'm going to learn how to use the Circle setting on the Link system. Working that over points with down lines might be very productive.
I'm glad I invested in the solar charging system at the storage facility. It works great and fast.
