I've got a vault full of 1911's, but my 2 favorites were both worked over by John Harrison for me.

A Springfield Armory TRP and an STI Ranger II.

Do share more. What did Harrison do to two already great 1911s? And if you could only keep one (and give the other to me), which would it be?

Keeping them both! I use the TRP mostly for USPSA and when I'm teaching classes. I use the STI for CCW and sometimes for classes. I ran it for demos during the last 1911 Operator class I taught.

TRP:
New barrel link and bushing
Recessed and dished crown
Serrated top of the slide
French border
Recut bevels at the end of the slide to a straight profile
Recess slide stop end
New tritium front sight (already had a YoBo plain black serrated rear)
Relieve under the trigger guard
Serrate rear of slide and HD extractor
Harrison Design ignition set with STI trigger
Techwell grips and magwell
Opened up magwell

STI:
Hi Power cut on slide
Tritium front and HD plain black serrated rear sights
Recessed slide stop
Recessed and dished barrel crown
HD ignition set with STI trigger
Milled the bottom of the frame off and welded the magwell on so that the OAL is the same as the original frame. All the pluses of a magwell with none of the obtrusiveness.
Chainlink pattern machined into MSH to match front strap
STI extended carry mag release
The ambi-safety is an EB set. I left the length on the left side at full length, but narrowed it slightly. The right side safety I cut way down so it isn't much larger than an USGI. I can use it when I need it, but it's out of the way the rest of the time. John had me cut it down like I wanted before I gave it to him.

I like your idea with the ambi safety on the STI, that is exactly how I would want mine. And having the bottom of the frame milled was another great idea. I didn't pick that up that it wasn't stock until you pointed it out - pure awesomeness there!

Love the black barrel, is that the ionbond you speak of?

Yep, IonBond.

On the TRP, I didn't coat the barrel or hammer. On the STI, I had every piece IonBonded.
