.270 vs .308 for hunting?

I have shot more deer with my Winny 270 than any gun I own but am a 308 Nut. Last 2 years I have hunted with a 350 Legend 5 shots 5 deer. Working on a 308 Axis now as a back up.

It’s personal preference and just that. I have always hunted with .270 but that’s just me.

Can’t go wrong either way. 270 is going to be long action. 308 is probably going to be short action, depending on rifle, if that matters at all to you. There’s a greater range of bullet weight for 308. But you really wouldn’t need anything more than 130gr 270 for deer. Both have a lot of options in factory ammo. 270 will be less recoil than 308. I would be more concerned about choosing a rifle first and cartridge second.

I switched over from 30-06 to .270wsm, and I'm glad I did. I took 2 shots with the gun last season and killed 2 deer. I know, shot placement and all that, but less recoil for an old me does the trick.

308 is a short action and I do like a short action rifle

Jack O'Connor was a huge .270 fan , I recall him from my childhood.
