.270 vs .308 for hunting?

My 270 WSM kicks like a mule!

Try the 130gr bullet in 270 WSM as it is a lot softer. The 140gr WSM reminded me of the 30-06 I have. Traded it off years ago as the only deer I saw hunting with it was a 6pt at about 10 yards. Nice thing about 308 is you can get a wide variety of ammo including subs if you want. 270 has a limited selection most places.

308 is a short action and I do like a short action rifle

The deer can't tell what action you have. There are a ton of actions in many calibers that will kill a deer just as dead.

I like them both. But I have been on a short, suppressed barrel kick lately and for that option it’s all .308…ignore the CA .22-250 in bottom picture (top) and custom .300WM (bottom) with the long barrels. The TIKKA and BERGARA .308’s are in the middle.
First picture below is the only stock I ever painted lol…it’s a COLT MCX TAC HUNTER.

ALL 16-20” barrels…all threaded for suppression except for the BAR.
All .308.

My sentiments exactly! However, a 270 can sneeze and kill a deer at 500 yards. You mentioned you reload, Holy Moses what hot loading would do for that round.

Both are great rounds/rifles. They will both kill everything in the state of GA if that is of concern. Nearly everything in the lower 48 for that matter.

Handloading makes both of these calibers shine.
