556 ammo suggestions

I have seen Adventure Outdoor and Cabelas selling the 420 round plastic ammo cans for real cheap. Cheap enough that it evens out when ordering on line and paying shipping. They run those specials all the time. If you get flyers from them just flip through them real quick and it will tell you. Last time I saw the special at Adventure Outdoors it was crazy cheap. They had pallets and pallets just sitting in the floor.

Wolf is generally the best bang for the buck. However if you're into rebates Federal is solid as well. American Eagle I think is under that Federal rebate too.

Wolf for .26 per round: https://www.sgammo.com/product/wolf...-fmj-brass-case-non-magnetic-wolf-gold-ar-15-

PMC Bronze I like .27 per round: https://www.sgammo.com/product/223-...-rem-pmc-55-grain-fmj-bt-brass-case-ammo-223a

Federal AE .25 per round after rebate: https://palmettostatearmory.com/fed...-full-metal-jacket-boat-tail-20rds-xm193.html

Good deal if you need mags as well:

I had real good luck w/77gr pills out of a 10" 1/7 twist barrel. I used faster powder and got better velocities than my regular 77gr load out of the same tube. YMMV, dont know if you reload.

You simply can not beat the American Eagle ammunition. Said it before and I will say it again.

I buy XM855 every chance I get. I have mostly 1:7 and 1:8 twist rates, so I've found that 55-grain is a little less accurate than the 62-grain big brother. Plus it is a steel core. It is always good to have around. You never know when those will be banned. My only 5.56 AR pistol is a 12" bbl so it's not too much of a pistol. 62 grain is perfect through it. 75-77 grain is the most accurate in my guns but they are never cheap so I don't do a lot of shooting with them.

I picked up a bunch of the Federal "black pack" ammo for a steal off of Palmetto state armory a little while ago. I'm pretty sure Federal is still doing the rebate offer though March. Its brass case FMJ and runs well. I haven't tried it at any longer ranges though. About the only thing I don't like about it is that the powder has a bit more muzzle flash than most, esp out of a short barrel or with a comp.

I'd personally shy away from stockpiling only green tip or steel case since most indoor ranges won't let you shoot them. The steel has a tendency to spark and will ignite all of the unburned powder that accumulates on the range. Green tip just tears the heck up out of the backstops.
