I am picking up an AR pistol tomorrow and it will be the only one in my collection (I am an AK guy)

Looking at buying bulk ammo in 556 and was curious to see suggestions for best bulk ammo purchase in 556 (brand, grain, etc).... I have seen ppu, Winchester, etc, what is the best bang for the buck?

All help appreciated

Depends on what you’re going to do with.
Buy the cheap stuff if you’re just plinking and slinging lead close in.
(But even that cheap Wolf stuff will hold an 8” bull at 600 yards out of a good rifle.)

I shoot the cheap stuff and my cheap reloads most of the time, but when I’m trying to put holes in my holes, I shoot some 75 grain Federals. There’s a big difference in accuracy and price.

Do you discourage shooting steel case through an AR? Even if it’s a cheaper AR?

Not at all, have never had a problem and I’d shoot the steel case stuff in 3 gun matches.
(Cause I knew I wasn’t going to get the opportunity to pick up my good brass ...) :becky:
Copy that. Thank you for your input.

I have always perceived AKs to be more reliable than ARs , but mostly because I have always thought you could feed an Ak dirt and it would shoot, while sprinkling dust on an AR receiver could cause it to jam, guess ARs have come along way.

Hands down I think the best ammo is the either American Eagle ( made by Federal ) it's a great clean choice. On the hand the bulk green tips are hard to beat. I think a combo of American Eagle for FMJ and Lake City for the Green Tips are your two best choices. Any other ammo that try to compete with them I am afraid is likely to be dirty and inconsistent. Those two options have bulk ammo from 300, 500 and 1000 rounds a little something for every price point. I tend to use the American Eagle myself because I like Federal ammo. It's clean, it's consistent and you can shoot it everywhere. There are a lot of ranges that won't let you shoot green tips. That goes double for indoor ranges. A lot of them go as far a checking your ammo before they let you back. So take that for what it's worth. On the other hand it's always good to have so armor piercing stuff as well. I think a lot from each is the answer you are looking for young jedi.
