While I have no illusion about "fighting my way back to my rifle" in most civilian contexts I do make it a point to have it, as well as other assorted defensive & survival items, including a 12 ga., with me in the trunk of my vehicle.

We do not have the luxury of picking the time, place, or manner in which we may need protection so I choose to have options that give me flexibility and firepower in the unlikely event it is needed.
I keep a spare tire, tools, & all kinds of other emer. gear in there as well.

It interests me when people say to leave it at home because it might get stolen.
If my weapon is locked out of sight in my trunk I feel I have made a reasonable effort to protect it.
With that logic I shouldn't even have any guns at home as thieves might break in & steal them.
I do believe & encourage people to safeguard their firearms.
I do however believe that each person has to be rational about choosing a compromise that fits their circumstances.

This.... Now man up and put your rifle(s) in the car!
