99 F150 heater Core shortcut?

My heater cores done-Used a sealant leak that got me by for a while, eventually bypassed the core. My truck has over 200.000 so I don't want to put a fortune in the repair. Has anyone tried a 'hot knife" job and gone straight in to replace=-vs taking dash, dropping steering column etc I have a new core. I have already cut in and to access the blend door- closed my "entry" with gorilla tape. Any tips before I attack?
Or anyone interested in tackling?

just cut the hose and set the core n the floor board and put a computer cooling fan on it...damn

You can prolly find someone to do it for about $500-600 labor. That would be the minimum I would do it for. I did mine in my old 0
