A newer truck

I probably wouldn't recommend any of the new 1/2 tons at the moment and would skip right over to the 3/4 ton 1 Ton gassers.

I'm in the market for a new truck myself in the near future, and believe it or not at the moment Ram seems to be putting out the most put together 1/2 ton. Their new inline 6 so far (its early though) has not shown a ton of major weakness and they are running the best transmission of all of them at the moment.

The F150 with the 5.0 would have been my pick, but they have put the wet belt into the Coyote now and I just can't buy one with either a major engine destroying failure point, or a 5K mandatory service. (the 2.7 has the same issue). Not a fan of the 3.5 for the reasons you are showing on this thread, (common leaks)

Chevy's 1/2 tons have their known issues and both the 1/2 ton transmissions from Ford/GM have their issues as well.

The Tundra is a hot mess right now.

So for me it will either be another Tacoma if I decide I don't need a full size again, or one of the big 3 3/4/1 ton gassers. All three have relatively simple powertrains.

It's a tough time to be a truck buyer that is for sure.

The tacoma now comes with a v4 turbo instead of a 6 cylinder, so I don't know if those are any good?
Just getting worse........I wouldn't hesitate on a older Toyota in really good shape. Thing is, I've seen 40yr olds that basically set on the show room floor and rusted out. Sad too, because they're rock solid on mechanicals

Tell me more about that Ram truck. Diesel? And the trans

Yes. Did all the maintenance and I've only had a misfire cylinder in 11 years. It's been good to me.

I'll have a another shop or shops check it out to make sure.
It's the $7k. Then knowing it's just getting started having problems. Sad really. It's been good to you. One like that is like an old friend

I think I'm leaning that way. I have been searching Carmax and found a few I like, but the comparable NEWER vehicle will be 40K-50K. And they are nice. 😆
Just be prepared in put a motor in it at some point. The new ones are nice till you drive them off the lot. Then it's your problem

You are right about that. I really liked the canyon, Colorado. Body style. Almost bought it instead. Probably the only reason I didn’t is because it took GM two years to acknowledge that drive through car washes were creasing the top of the truck. Now on the assembly line they are putting a reinforced bar in the roof. I remember when Tacomas were having rusted out frames showing up. Toyota at least replaced the frames on trucks up to ten years old. Right now the Tundra is having massive recalls and the older generation is bring unreal prices on the used market regardless of miles
LOL, roof crease. Major kudos on Toyota on the frames. I do know someone with a Colorado. @ 200k miles. 5 cyl. I think. No problems I know of

The old saying “there is no replacement for displacement”. This EPA BS to push for lower emissions and more mpg’s is retarded. The auto industry doesn’t want cars to last like the old ones. New cars sells are way down. When a basic model is $30k and car payments are more than your mortgage. Something wrong with that
