Absolutly no reason...

I tried three times to make it in. I just got back from an attempt. The road was iced but clear earlier, but I turned around before I got to this hill I didn't think j could make it up. My last attempt that hill had a 6 car pile up on it.

I even offered to pick people up and take them to or from work and nobody took me up on it. Heck, the hospital will send an ambulance to pick you up and bring you to work but many still called in.

My wife was hospital pharmacist until last month. Most of them had to camp out the night before (in the past) some did this time too. Average hospital takes ~15 employees per bed to run normally, can function at ~10 per bed. Key roles missing disrupt that big time; lots of folks going to work today.

EMT dudes, I salute you especially in metro area. It's real hard to drive fast and safe on days like today.

I only work Wednesday- day shift and then 12 hours nights on weekends at my main job. I pick up shifts at other places through a staffing agency on my off days any time I want. So I'm only really missing today's day shift. But someone had to cover it. Someone either had to get in or stay and work a double. Most of the staff there lives nearby. I live 2 towns away in a "holler" with a one lane dirt road that isn't a county road that I have to climb to get out. Sometimes it's tough getting out just due to rain. Snow...Ice...forget it. I would have gone in and spent the night to make sure and be there, but the weather reports looked like it was all going to stay south of here. It's killing me being stuck at home. Part of me is glad to be safe but MOST of me feels responsible for whomever is having to cover for me.

She is actually the lab director. When everybody else called in, she has to go in or the lab shuts down which in turn shuts down the hospital. Basically everybody called in because they couldn't make it, so I got to drive back and forth to the hospital 3 times to either pick her up or drop her off. I find it funny because I have to drive past at least ten of the employees homes who called in to take her to work. Sure, nobody wants to go out and drive in it if you don't have to, but it looks pretty bad when you boss has to have her husband drive past your house so she can cover your shift.

You too man. I am just hoping I don't have to take her back at 9 tonight. She is a bit.....ehhhh, less pleasant when working graveyard.
