Lubrication is key for the AR... regardless of how much crap is in it.
Yeah. Part of the test will be to time how long it takes the gun to get back in the fight after it goes down. I have full confidence the AR is going to walk all over the AK.
Consider using a piston operated AR for the test, as well.
Don't have one, no desire to own one. GAS BABY!Anybody has a piston gun they would like us to test just let me know. I'll be happy to bury somebody else's gun.

One of the reasons we are performing the test both ways is to simulate both conditions. While it may not be "normal" to see a bolt locked back on the AR and certainly not on the AK, it will provide unbiased results on both platforms. The first test favors the AR because, in the "safety off" position, the AR's internals are still protected whereas the AK in "safety off" makes the chamber even more vulnerable to contamination because it further exposes the internals. It's gonna be fun and we already know which rifle will prevail in fine accuracy.

throw em in a creek, loaded, safety on(duh). muzzle pointed down stream. upstream of the rifles kick up some sand or dirt so it gets them good and gritty. have a smoke, and then remove the rifles and empty 30rd mag as rapidly as possible. most of all be safe.
