Without reading back through all this if it was an F150 it has to be the 300 inline 6.
Actually the 300-6cyl, 302 and 351 were/ are all good engines capable of 300k or more. I've seen a 460 with 350k with no air filter running in a very dusty construction environment still running well. And pulling horse trailers back and forth to Mexico.
 
We were up near Alaska getting gas...and this huge ass "dog" walked up with his owner. My 80lb female shepherd jumped about died. It was a husky/wolf hybrid and could almost look into the exploder without standing up at all. Was a Trump HUGE canine. Was super friendly. I got to pet him.

Following the mergers, Nissan holds a majority stake in JATCO (around 75%), with Mitsubishi Motors (around 15%) and Suzuki (around 10%) also holding shares.

The major players at and above Nissan are eyeballs deep into Jatco.

I thought at one point they stopped making the Titan because the tranny was so unreliable.

Friend of mine and a member here has a Duramax that looks about 10-15 years old . He has more mechanical skills than me and he said it was "the last safe Duramax year". I assumed it must be a pre DEF engine.
Not long before getting that one he was looking for a 96 and older F150. When I asked why he said 96 was the last year for the good ones. Makes sense to me . That was the last year of the square body trucks as well as the old style 5.0 and the 300 inline 6.
I have a 95 F150 that bought new 30 years ago now (yes, I'm a Boomer). I'll keep it until I can't drive anymore. In fact, my old truck was just selected to participate in a Ford commercial at University of Alabama next week with Coach DeBoer. OBS Fords are the premium models these days.

After reading about pulling a big camper, I can't believe it's lasted this long. 302 is a good engine, but working a heavy load too. I had a 86 F150 with the 302, first year with the Bosch EFI. It was a great truck. I only sold it because I wanted more truck

Those trucks are definitely climbing in value. Not even ten years ago they were everywhere cheap.

Every time I take mine to the shop, there's a lot of fuss over mine. People wanting to buy it. My mechanic said, you know that truck is worth a lot of money......
My grandfather bought an 83 XL long bed regular cab new and drove it until he died in 88. He only bought long bed trucks. When I asked why he told me "If you can't get a sheet of plywood in it and close the tailgate it ain't a real truck." On Sundays he would take it to the car wash open both doors and spray soap and then clean water over the rubber coated floorboard. Over the last few years I find myself looking at first gen Tundras with long beds and reg cabs. Same for F150s. One of my bosses asked why I wanted something like that. I told him "When I need a truck I need it for doing truck ****. I don't need and never wanted a show truck."
