I have been looking for a compact 9 mm that is reliable and easy to conceal. I love the look of the Remington R51 but I am concerned about the issues they had that caused a recall. According to Remington's web sight the gun is available again but I have yet to see any article about whether or not they resolved their issue with the R51. Anyone have any experience with this gun?

I was excited about the initial release of this gun. I read a lot of the first reviews and decided I still wanted one. But they were pulled before they even hit the gun stores around my area so I have never even seen or held one. I wasn't aware that they were coming back but I'm still a bit hesitant about it especially now. even though I still carry my recalled/fixed XDS every single day. I shoot it alot and trust my life to it.

If Remington can be true to it's promises it would be the perfect concealed carry 9 mm. I used to have a S&W Model 3913. That was another great carry 9 mm. I'm just not that crazy about the new S&W guns.

As badly as they screwed up the first one it will take a whole hell of a lot of great reviews before I would trust my life on the (NEW)R51.

I don't trust my life based on other peoples' reviews. I make that decision based on my own experiences, usually with basic range time and IDPA or similar matches to induce a little stress.

I base my purchases on reviews but even then I have to work through the silly stuff to find unbiased reports.

I don't mean to come across as busting your chops, I just have a different approach.

I was meaning that I would not buy one to see unless there is a crap load of good reviews. I agree with you I have to check out a gun to determine if I will carry it. That goes for guns that have great track records... the only record that counts with me is MY record.

Tommy Theis (holster maker, and ODT sponsor) stated that, due to the R51 being such an unreliable handgun, if he sold anyone a holster for a R51, to notify him and he would make them a replacement holster for their gun of choice free of charge. He didn't want their investment in his holster being a factor in the customer carrying such a horrible gun.

Honestly, with all the excellent polymer wonder pistols on the market, I'd pass on a handgun that had such a sketchy reputation.
