Apache Pilot Walks In Grenade Strike For Ground Forces

Fe, fi, FO/FIST
That poor SOB just got dissed.

Happy trails, a-hole!

Yeah, kind of strange not to clear our guys out and let the chain gun rip, but maybe the pilot just wanted to play FO/FIST for a change. There's nothing wrong with cross training. :D

We use to do bombing runs from a Huey in Nam.. Take Empty C-Rat cans and nail them to aboard, 4 rows of six cans, Pull the pins on Frag Grenades and "Gently" slip them into the cans, fly over Charlie and flip the board over and 4-6 seconds later Carpet bombing with 24 Frags..48 if you flipped from both doors .. Made for great entertainment :thumb:

Wow. So you'd be flying pretty low, right? Did you have the grenades detonate at ground level, or were you airbursting them? If they were hitting the ground, you had to be low-- 300 feet or less.
You had these exploding grenades blowing up only 100 yards below you??
Isn't that pretty dangerous? Those fragments can travel at rifle bullet speeds, right?

Don't quote me on this, my memory may be a bit hazy on the subject and I dont feel like Googling it, but hand grenades only have about a 5 meter lethal range and about 15 meter maim range, if I recall correctly. My numbers may be slightly off, but I'm pretty sure anything past 30 meters away is generally considered fairly safe.

Also, a spinning, odd shaped fragment is not aerodynamically shaped and meets far more air resistance than a slender rotating bullet, and therefore quickly loses its velocity and energy.
