AR Flash Hider Question / Help Needed Around Barrow / Walton County

Got a Daniel Defense V7 LW Upper and was wondering if there was anyone around the Barrow Or Walton County area who maybe able to assist in getting the flash hider off. It shows no signs of being staked or soldered.

I dont have the tools or a barrel vice to get this thing going and have read some stories on the internet about causing issues if you try just torquing it without supporting the barrel. It looks as simple as vice it up and turn counterclockwise but ....

If anyone around this area happens to have a barrel vice or any experience in doing this and wouldn't mind lending a hand please let me know.

if you have a vise,


Clamp it in the vise between two pieces of wood. Turn it off with a box head wrench that fits it. Easy breezy done.


Unless of course your barrel is 14.5 inches, the the flash hider is probably pinned and welded.



For a really stuck one that is not pinned and welded, you can try freezing it first. If that doesn't work, get out the gas torch and heat that sucker up. the metal expanding and contracting from being frozen or heated will usually help you pop it loose.

I have a .22 conversion bolt and a suppressor I would really like to run on it. (Just for fun) and one day here soon my 5.56 suppressor will be here (any day now actually) but in the mean time and in prep for that day (Christmas in April / May ), I need to get the flash hider off.

I have the correct open ended wrench, I just am afraid to torque on it for fear of rotating the barrel and possibly breaking something important.

You know, I never really thought of using heat and cold. Thats a good idea. Tomorrow I may have to hit up home depot and buy a vice. I have needed one for a while but didnt know if it needed to be a "ar special" or if I could improvise.

You should be fine. Clamp it down good and go to work.


However, I will advise against shooting 22lr out of it through a can. The barrel is not made for 22lr and it will not stabilize it properly. The chances of a baffle strike seam to high to risk.

Man thanks for all your help NW. This has been a WHOLE lot of information real quick. .

Probably should keep my Silencerco to my dedicated .22 rifles in that case and just wait for the big boy to come in before goofing off with the conversion and the can.

I will hit up home depot tomorrow and snag me a vice and give it a go. I will post back with the success and/or failure, whichever the case maybe.

Any vise will do. Later you can add an AR action block which just sits inside your vise. they run about 30 bucks.
