AR Optics

I like the primary arms 3x SLX. I also really like the primary arms GLX 1-6. Cheap, nice, tough. Also, the vortex PST GENII 1-6 and stiener 1-4.

If moneys no object NF ATCAR, Kahles 1-6, Vortex Razor GEN III, PA PLXC, Trijicon VCOG or similar 1-6.

Burris RT-6 for scope is good enough unless you want it to stop bullets.

Red dot you have to look through them yourself to see if you'll like it. Shaped reticles are surer bets. Some of the names lauded by the tactical crowd have darker lens coatings, making them less useful than others.

For general use, you want a brighter picture and a dot that turns down to night vision levels. When it's dark you need to be able to see around the dot. Too bright blinds you.

Avoid rubber covered button pads, because you live in the land of briars. Small rubber buttons have been OK. I mention this specifically because of a reference above to Vortex.

You can get the Burris LPVO in a kit with a Fast fire for a deal at times.

unless you have a specific need to reach out to distance, start with a good red dot and then go from there. Cheapest way to get into optics for the rifle. Trijicon MRO (some don't like them but they work fine for me), Holosun, or a variety of others that fit your budget. Aimpoint H1/T1 or Eotech holo if you have the budget would be the best. Add a 3x flip to side if you want a bit of magnification.

Or go with an ACOG and red dot if your budget allows and if you like that style (usually 3-4x fixed in ACOG with red dot on side or top).

LPVO (Low Power Variable Optics) would be a third option with a red dot. Price and performance all over the place. If you want to shoot distance/magnified most of the time this might be a better option but weighs a lot more, can get a lot more expensive (to get quality) and probably not as good for CQB.

Any opinions on eotech LPVOs?
The only one I have any time behind is the 1-10x and I like it. Didn't have a lot of time with it, but decent on 1x, not too terribly much fisheye, FOV was pretty decent, kinda ran out of useability over 7 or 8x or so, like a lot of 10x lpvos do.

I absolutely do not understand the appeal of a magnifier with a red dot or holographic optic. Just use an lpvo. It's smaller, lighter, faster to deploy, less rail space taken up typically, one less failure point, more mag options, and you don't have a clunky mass hanging off of the side of your rifle when not in use.
