AR Upper parts for my build. What do you think?

You can check the prices of out of stock products on the PSA website by using the 'compare' feature.

Yup, that works well. Blemished upper, no charging handle or BCG for 350. sounds promising. Anyone know how often they get these types of things back in stock? I know the AR market is still pretty crazy.

I think they had them a few weeks back. They also had bcg's with a charging handle for $169. They were 8620, but should be fine for our use.

Their better quality BCG is only $180 I believe, but doesn't include a charging handle

Does the A3 upper receiver have M4 cuts? Be sure that the upper you purchase matches the barrel extension you buy.

Also, before you commit to a pinned 14.5 barrel, be sure the upper is configured exactly how you want it. Once the flash hider is pinned, it's pretty much staying that way forever. You should also be aware that you shouldn't pin the flash hider until the last step of assembly. You have to get the barrel nut and gas block on before pinning the muzzle device.

I never really considered that. If it makes it too much of a pain to do customization, I might be better off going with a 16".

Not entirely true. I can remove a pinned muzzle device in about 15 minutes. Granted removal destroys the muzzle device so you have to buy a new one, but I have had to cut quite a few off in my day. I'm actually doing one this week.

If you don't have to tools to cut the muzzle device off, or to pin and weld a new one gunsmithing fees can get expensive, but if you are setup for the job it is not really a big deal at all.

Good point. Pin and weld jobs as well as removal can be done by someone with the correct skills and expertise, but that doesn't include the majority of folks attempting a home build. Good thing we've got you around to send barrels to! :D

I guess the only point I was trying to make is that it adds a level of complexity that's probably beyond the average guy wrenching on his AR. They also make it more complicated if you ever want to change up the configuration.

Here's a good example. Palmetto uses FN hammer forged barrels:

Palmetto sells FN Cold Hammer Forged barrels, but not all are FN and not all FN are cold hammer forged. After a lengthy conversation with a sales rep and one of their engineers, I learned the following:

All "Premium" labeled barrels are FN.
Those that are not labeld "Premium" could be from FN, Mossberg, or Wilson Combat.
Unless is says "Cold Hammer Forged", it is not ...
