I picked this up today. Looks like a TYPE 38 built in Made in Nagoya Arsenal. the stock looks like it has been sporterized.

There are NO import markings.

Thoughts?

Anyone have an old stock? I saw some online for $150. But they don’t look that good for the price and no Hardware.

The rifle is in remarkable shape. The Arisaka's are interesting rifles, there kinda clunky - bolt manipulation sucks, but they have their place in American history, which is why I have a couple. The rifles themselves are relatively cheap, probably because ammo availability stinks, but finding specific spare parts can be tough. $150 for a stock? I don't doubt it and it's not a ridiculous price to pay to bring that back to its former glory.

That’s why I picked it up. I like to preserve history. I think with the right stock it will be awesome.

OP so looks like you and I are in the same boat.
I found same thing as you. perfect mum butchered stock. Looks like you have the stock with the cupped buttplate. What stocks I’ve been finding online haven’t been for our cupped version. And they typically are not for the Carbine version either.
If you do come across any please let me know after you buy yours :-) or any you turn down. I’m ok searching for the metal as that’s appearing to be the easy part of this equation.

I ended up buying a stock from Ebay. It was better than expected. It was $230ish for the wood and had the metal as well.

Lucky you. Saw a Carbine stock last night didn’t see final sale but it was over $425 when I did see it. All metal and looked beautiful. Glad I wasn’t drinking :-)

Are all t38’s carbines ? Or do I need to confirm my barrel length? Picked mine up for a steal at a yard sale.

"Are all t38’s carbines ? " I don't know. I never really cared about these until I came across this one. My dad has one he gave me and I threw it in the closet. Shoot me some pics on this somethime
