but i figure if they are off duty, then they can carry an AR just like any other citizen i suppose.

if this was in new york, i would have a problem with it. but since citizens and police can carry the same weapons i guess its not an issue with me

This. As long as their citizens are legally allowed to do the same, then not much to see here.
