Asked to return pistol purchase

I'd call my local P.D. or sheriffs office and have them run the numbers for you and also have a report done by the law enforcement agency in your area. That story does sound strange. If all that goes okay then I would also have the seller find you a perfect replacement and then, and only then, would I return it. I'd also have the seller void and document all the paperwork dealing with this issue and have a notary present...

Thanks guys. The kid did have a repair receipt but like I said the shop owner recognized that the kid may be a minor and asked to contact the parents before he would return the firearm. The father said that he did not know that the kid had a gun and said that he wanted nothing to do with. This is the story that the shop owner relayed to me. I want to be a nice guy about all of this but the owner saying that I NEED to return it just chapped me. It almost makes me want to go to court. I DO have a SIGNED receipt for the gun. BTW it is an awful sweet shooter, in fact since I have owned it I have put more rounds through it than any other hand gun in my possession. Man this is a tough one and I'm still on the fence.

for the issues I had to go through... He would supply me with another one in the same condition and $100.00 for my troubles. I think that would be fair. If not, ole well, the gun has a home.

Those numbers don't seem to add up...

If he's over 21 now, two years ago he was 19.

19 year olds are not minors and can legally own a handgun if I'm not mistaken...

I would not give it back. They had 2 years to make arrangements to get the gun, and chose not too. They abandoned the property, the gun store took into their books and sold it. If you want to be "nice" sell it back to them for $850.00 to teach the stupid kid a lesson.

Keep it, The freaking kid should have never had it anyway, Like someone else said, tell the shop owner to find you a replacement. Let the bad karma fall on the shop owner..........not you

why would you be going to court? You have a receipt for a item you purchased. If anyone goes to court it should be the kid and the owner of the gunshop. The issue of reimbursement is between them.

Its not your fault they messed up and sold someone elses property. Worst comes to worst, that kid will just sue him.

If it were me, the guy would either give me one just like it in exchange or he wouldn't get it back. Maybe if the guy had called and politely explained the situation and asked if he could work something out with me I'd consider taking it back so long as he replaced it with the same gun at no additional cost but with the way this played out I'd tell him to kiss my ass. This is def a fishy story... If the guy didn't file the proper paperwork that is HIS problem. He failed to do right and that doesn't constitute an emergency return on your part.
Like someone else said... How can this kid demand his gun back if he never legally owned it to begin with? What kind of paperwork could this kid possibly have to prove that the gun legally belongs to him?
