What advantage would a 9mm PDW with a 4.5 inch barrel have over a 9mm handgun other than increased magazine capacity?
I'm not trying to be 'that guy' but I can't see a scenario where I would need to conceal something that small that is going to limit my options.

Rattler or MPX. I lean toward my MPX a little more, because at a 4" barrel you can use a short suppressor and still fit it in a back pack. My MPX is just under 17.5" suppressed when folded, its hard(er) to do that with the Rattler and a can that can withstand a 5.5" barrel in .300 blk super. Radar363 Radar363 the advantage of the 9mm PDW would be # of rounds and accuracy but yes terminal effectiveness would be the same. 100 yard shots are very easy though, something a bit more difficult with a pistol.

That does look handy and 100 yard gong hits are something I probably couldn't do with that but again why 9mm over a true rifle caliber?

You could easily hit at 100. I have gone out to 175 off-hand and 250 supported. Ammo continuity is a big thing for me since my pistol runs 9mm and I like that 9mm suppresses very well. I like my ears. Get a short 5.56 or .300 BLK in supersonic, and its still going to be very loud suppressed. The MPX also has much less recoil.

I get compatability, but in post 3 the OP talks about being able to use a rifle more effectively and would use this in an urban setting.
I have AR pistols in 5.56 and 300 BO but am still not comfortable shooting them.

He said the MP5 he wishes he hadn't sold filled his role well, if that's the case, the MPX should be GTG.

I recall seeing him mention that, I'm probably just over thinking it; looking at it from my point of view and not the OPs.
Has anyone ran a piston-driven AR with a short barrel (10.5 - 11.5 inches) with a folding brace?
Unsure what the overall length would be or how reliable they are as I don't have any personal experience with one.
