Just received the October 30th 2015 edition of GunsAmerica Digest and the above title caught my eye. Can read at: https://www.gunsamerica.com/blog/ba...preme-court-finally-decide-constitutionality/

The Second Amendment as you know states, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

A good article on the background of the 2nd Amend. can be found at http://www.constitution.org/2ll/2ndschol/89vand.pdf . This article written by David E. Vandercoy reviews English history leading up to laws permitting individuals to keep and bear arms first as a form of defense for the country against invaders and later as a check on the government (Parliament) established by the various kings and queens in England. I believe that the Founders being aware of English history especially the abuses by King George wanted a check in place for the new American government being established.

So much talk is about "legitimate sporting use". The constitution doesnt say anything about target shooting or hunting. Its talking about security. An "assault rifle" or battle rifle or what ever they want to call it is whats protected in the 2nd amendment. A weapon "being necessary to the security of a free state". The Brown Bess doesnt fit that bill anymore.
