Battery/Alternator Question

I've seen batteries drop a cell and pull down the entire system making it look like a bad alternator. Another thing you can do is crank it and pull off one battery terminal. If she dies, you've got problems with the charging system.

Older vehicles yes but with all these modules computers it's not a valid test

14v normal
Good alternator

Yes you can make it all the way home with bad alternator as its putting out battery volts once you go less the battery volts and using radio Ac then you would be calling tow truck

Things to check
Charge retest battery
Belt stretched ?
Bad tensioner
Corrosion cables etc

Sounds like bad voltage regulator in the alternator
Can save few bucks and replace it

Telling someone they needed to check their exhaust fluid used to be funny. Now it's expensive and time consuming.
We've convinced a few people that blinker fluid is a real thing. Especially when you've got one of the old Cherokees in the shop that has the rear washer fluid reservoir right in the back hatch by the tail light. Good times with green rookies.

I sell northstar battery and high output alternators and cold a alt should put out 14.4 but hot around 13s dependi g on regulator ...batteries should rest cold @12.8-13.2 depending ..but many variances and real time situations can change that..
Get a multimeter and put hot on hot alt wire and ground it to alt bbolt while idling and start engine and see what idle voltage is ...then see what batt voltage is with same technique while idling
