I used Marlin 22 mag on an Arctic squirrel at 50 yards. It was an FMJ. Left a nice entry and exit holes. Still have a hide somewhere :)
22 is nice because it did not scare little buggers as much as the 22-250 did, and they poped back out of the holes.

Neck down a .50 BMG to take a 69-grain .224" caliber bullet.

Although the one on the left, using a .17 bullet in some other big-ass case, looks adequate for 400-yard shots.

That likely has a barrel life under 200 rounds.

the hornet would be fun at closer ranges, especially if you already have one. 35-40gr Vmax would do well. I'd go for that out to 250yards, maybe more if not much wind and you have time/targets. Longer shots 22-250 because of wind and distance/drop.

sounds like a fun trip. what hornet did you get?

LMFAO. Those can't be real rounds they would disintegrate the projectile.

Actually, they are real rounds, though some inert ones are being sold on the innerwebs. They one on the right is called the 17 Incenerator Improved. To launch them requires a polygonal barrel, and the bullets are solids. There is an article in Accurate Shooter about the project.
