Caliber isn't as important as the cartridge. All 30 calibers aren't equal, etc etc etc.

Agreed (cartridge vs caliber). But OP asked for caliber, not cartridge, hence my .41magnum and .243 caliber choices.

I will be trying 140 grain sp 6.5c this season, talked a lot of **** about 6.5 over the years, traded into a nice tikka and thought I might as well find out first hand how good/bad it is.

You'll be happier with more speed. Look around 120gr at that powder capacity.
