Best deer caliber?????

If the original question stands as Which Caliber is best for Whitetail Hunting, then I would answer the caliber that best fits the variables in your hunt. Variables may include; wind, distance, topography, experience, etc. It (should) goes without saying the hunter needs to be a master of their instrument in order to achieve the goal of killing their quarry as quickly as possible.

I love the .41magnum, but the .243 works equally well for me. I prefer to hunt within 25 yards as I believe this range permits for faster kill, less variables for resulting in poor shot placement, and I just prefer to be as close as possible to my quarry. Both of these calibers have produced 1 shot kills with deer dropping in under 30 yards.

The best caliber will likely change as variables change (such as long range hunting, or hunting in areas with thick brush, etc).
That's it. No one size fits all. I do carry a handgun and I've taken plenty with it. But I'll only use it when it's the best choice for the situation. Just like I prefer to take a longer shot with a rifle. My main thing is to make a clean kill. Things do happen, that's why you have to be prepared for those times
