Best deer caliber?????

Growing up in western NY state, we were only allowed shotgun slugs...not even buckshot. Or any pistol if you possessed a CCW permit.

Thats how most of fort Gordon is. I killed some big deer with the shotty. I grew up in upstate ny so I could use my 30-30 and 06 to kill deer. They all work well.

I have a Mauser action 257 Robert with 18 inch barrel Timney trigger and 2 1/2 power weaver scope weighs a little less than 5 pounds. Very accurate and one shot is all it takes.

.30 caliber most likely. Within that caliber you have classics like the 30-30, .308 win, .30-06, .300 win.

.25 .26 and .27 caliber are excellent as well.

The best caliber is the one you have. That being said, the best caliber is one that ammo is readily available for and you can shoot straight. That will also depend on the particular gun and the shooter. 308 and 30-06 are great calibers and ammo will be available for these 2 calibers if there is any ammo available at all.

I have consistently had one shot kills with .218 bee, .22 hornet, .222 , .223 , .243, .308, .350 lgnd, 30-30, .357 mag , .44 mag 30/06. I have had bad luck with .270 and 7 mag.
New for this season will be .22 Arc , 6.5 creed and .45 LC

More 308 out there. Cheaper too. You looking in the wrong spots. I like 30-06 too though. A Remington 7600 or 7400 in aught 6 is a good deer killer.
