I guess not. Opinions are like noses. Everybody has one. But based on the numerous replies one would naturally assume that the opinions would be based on actually having used the caliber said opinion was spoke about. No need to apologize.
during the 'early '60s the .257 was listed in the reg book as a cartridge not legal for deer hunting in GA another was the .30 carbine, there were a few others also
,308 is the best hunting round.No need to argue just continue to be wrong if you must

I’ve used just about everything but I never had a deer walk away from a 300 win mag.

I’ve seen a guy ruin both shoulders and the front end of the backstrap with a 300 REM ultra mag. Also seen a 30-06 miss ( wound up hitting the neck) that dropped what looked like a 5 gallon bucket of blood where he stood. Deer ran over half a mile leaving a highway of crimson and needed a finishing shot when we found him after dark. Obviously shot placement is key. IMHO shoot the largest caliber you feel comfortable with. One that doesn’t invite flinching or second guessing. If that is a .223, your family should learn to eat gophers, coons, yotes and such.Not that there’s anything wrong with that. I’ve seen recipes.😁
I helped trail a deer shot through both shoulders with a 375 H and H mag over a mile down through a creek and up the bank,0ne shoulder was hanging by skin,the old mangled badly,finished off with a 9mm.
I told the guy who shot it he needed a larger rifle,he was into large calibers,this was a 100 lb doe.
