Bought my 5 yr old Grand Daughter a BB Gun for Christmas....your thoughts?

My brothers and I used to play war with our Red Ryders and Crossmans
WWII was going on when I was a kid; so there were no BB guns available. Instead, my Dad bought me a used Springfield .22 pump when I was six. I got my first Red Ryder when I was nine...after the war ended.
I was taught all the proper safety rules while I had the .22. I probably violated some of those rules with the BB gun; because I never tended to think of it as a "real" gun. Like some others here, I would engage in BB gun battles with my friends.
Five is not too young to learn to shoot safely under proper supervision.

Went over to my daughter's house yesterday and watched her oldest (9) daughter shoot her new Daisy with pink furniture. Noticed she was left-eye dominant, and got her started shooting lefty. She didn't like it at first, but started getting used to it. Her dad is helping her with it.
