Bullseye gun range on fire.

At GMC, in 1984 the rifle range (indoor, small bore) caught fire behind the bullet traps in Whitfield Hall. In the past, some rocket surgeon decided it'd be a good use of old mattresses to lay them on the back of the bullet traps to shore up the stopping capabilities. LOL.

Our indoor range was in the basement of the ROTC building. During Viet Nam, we had virtually limitless amount of .22.

How we all didn't come down with terminal lead poisoning is mystery.

UGA used to have a firing range in the ROTC building, haven't thought of it in years, need to check it out. Not sure the ROTC building is still the ROTC building. High school classmate tried to burn it down, didn't work out too well for him.

How sorry a shot do you have to be to miss a bullet trap at 50' with a .22lr target rifle?

I’m not surprised. The air is so thick and dense in there, I expected an explosion at some point.
I shot there twice, and wouldn’t have gone again. Waaaaaayyyyyy cleaner ranges out there.

Nobody missed a bullet trap. It was just a very old design with the plates overlapped there was an opening that allowed a spark to start a fire in one of the mattresses. There were also stacks and stacks of old school newsletters very dry tinder.
