I think it is how much to you want to be married to the gun. 10/22 is fun. The mosin can be fun too. I shoot cast bullets in mine and don't get beat up, because as was said before, it can leave you with a sore shoulder, and some of the surplus out there does have laquer that makes it hard to open the action.
