Camelback Hydration Pack question

Anyone know the best way to get the god-awful vinyl/rubber taste out of a new camelback system? It was military surplus, unissued. Tried everything I can think of.

Have you tried those foaming denture cleaning tablets

I stole this from Yahoo Answers. I will try this as well as I own two camelbacks.

"Try adding about 2 tablespoons of baking soda to the bladder, fill it with hot water and let it sit for 2 hours, drain, rinse several times. No more plastic taste, just clean refreshing water. It will go away on it's own over time, though."

Yeah, I had mine in Saudi Arabia, the taste will go away on its own.

My Camelback never had that taste but then mine is clear blue vinyl, not rubber.

Mine is a OD green vinyl type material.

Camel pack makes the cleaning tabs that will work to get rid of the stale taste and leaves a little minty tastes as well.
