Canned Chili Connoisseurs?

Do you like beans in your canned chili?

I haven't eaten canned ( Hormel) chili in decades. But, even back when I kinda " liked" it, I knew it was rot-gut garbage (but these days I pretty much live off Sam's Club rotisserie chickens, and the produce aisle at Aldis).
Nowadays, you couldn't get me to touch the stuff. I'd take my, or almost any body's, homemade chili, versus anything canned.
As for beans, I do use them. I'm not rigidly pro-bean, it's just a healthy, economical way to get more mileage out of a family-sized pot.

Shouldn't have caused an issue if it wasn't 12 - 15 years out of date.
Just asked my Wife about that. There weren't dates on food till more recent times. Who knows how old that can was. I know I've been sick eating spoiled food before myself. I can tell you my Wife has a great track record with me. I've never been sick from anything in her household

My rule of thumb has always been... if the can's not swollen, it's gtg. Unless it makes a pfffft noise when you open. That one's going straight to the garbage.

I don't believe you! If this were true you'd have posted "I only eat chili con carne sans haricots that is imported from "Fronce." Gotta get that nasal inflection in there to establish your upper class superiority.
Okay...okay...you saw through my uppity facade.

Most any old canned chili with beans will do.

I started in the brokerage business in 1987. The manufacturers and packers I rep'd used Julian date codes for the pack date. We knew when to pull or issue credits depending on the item. Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix went out if code fairly quick compared to say anything with tomatoes in it (high acidity.)

Best thing manufacturers ever did was to put "sell by" dates on products. Way too many folks think it's an "expiration date" and toss it.
