Funny how we long time smokers immortalize the day we finally quit for good.
09/14/77 was last cigarette for me.
Nov 8th, 2005. Best decision I've ever made (and stuck to). Cigarettes in Chicago were $8.50 / pack of 20 (Marlboro lights) then. That's the equiv of $14.06 in "today's money."

I remember Friday nights as a teen....a pack of Marlboros and a quart of beer cost $1
LOL, in 1938?

I do remember a pack of Marlboro Reds (Kings) costing 58 cents/pack when I started smoking. Didn't develop a taste for beer for a while after that but I remember qt bottles were about $1.49 in 1987 at Starvin' Marvin.

I can't imagine waking up every morning and ( after coughing up nasty **** for five minutes) knowing I gotta stop somewhere and drop a ten dollar bill just so I can keep coughing and smelling up my clothes for the rest of the day. And that's on top of what I spend on beer.

I took a drag off one about a year and a month after quitting and when I stopped coughing I asked myself, "WTF Turner?!?!?!? You used to LIKE THIS?"

I used to stand there and calculate how much money they'd save in a year if they quit. Then tell them to invest that money and show them what they could save up. I always got the deer in the headlights look.......

I reckoned I'd smoked a BMW 740i by the time I quit.
