Carbine fever!

Another fine offering for our discriminating screen used Planet of the Apes collectors. In our archivist's 18 years of Hollywood memorabilia procurement we have only discovered 1 (one) original, screen used Planet of the Apes "hero" gorilla carbine rifle. And this is it!

Unlike the now legendary 1995 discovery of the Beneath the Planet of the vast Apes "stunt" (all wood/non firing) props rifles or the rare Beneath metal prop gun casing that ScreenUsed recently offered, this (possibly one of a kind) extremely rare, hero gorilla rifle actually features an original, once firing, M-1 army carbine rifle. (Note: We have not attempted to clean or fire the weapon).

During the early 1970's, 20th Century Fox auctioned and sold off much of their screen used memorabilia. Following the filming of Planet of the Apes, the gorillas rifles were disassembled and stripped of their firing M-1 rifle components. The rifles were then returned to the studio prop weapon armory.

Recently, an auction house estimated the value of a Planet of the Apes wood casing identical to this piece but without the internal rifle component at $10,000.00. This spectacular entertainment artifact has been in a private collection for over a decade and is being offered exclusively here at ScreenUsed for the very first time.

During filming of the first film in the blockbuster franchise Planet of the Apes, the firing gorilla rifles would recoil during shooting and damage their hand carved wood casing stocks (Note: This damage is still visible on this rifle and has not been restored). This recoil problem was rectified prior to the filming of Beneath the Planet of the Apes by the 20th Century Fox in-house studio prop department who engineered hand poured aluminum casings for the firing rifle which were much more durable.

This fantastic artifact of Apes lore is an investment worthy, museum quality display piece, which matches up identically to screen captures from the film. Who knows? Perhaps it was even used by Taylor (Charlton Heston) himself!

Some folks say the Highpoint reminds them of a Planet of the Apes carbine.
