Chambered or Not?

This is just my opinion...and it's not to offend anyone...but if your not ready to carry "locked & loaded"...or "Condition 1"...then your not ready to carry.

Condition One: Ready To Rock

In Condition One, the pistol has a cartridge in the chamber and a fall magazine inserted into the magazine well. This state of readiness occurs just prior to firing the gun.

In Condition One, a Glock handgun or one similar in mechanics is brought into action simply by being brought on target. When placed on the trigger, the shooter's finger disengages the safety lever located in the middle of the trigger.

In Condition One, 1911 pistols are in a mechanical state commonly called "cocked and locked." In this mode, the hammer is back and the thumb safety is up and in a locked or "safe" no-fire position. The magazine is full and in place.

To bring into action, the 1911 is brought on target, the thumb safety depressed into fire mode and the trigger is accessed. The 1911 also requires that the grip safety located at the back of the frame be depressed in order to fire the pistol.

In Condition One, a firearm is in its fullest state of readiness. The operator is simply required to draw or present the pistol to the threat and apply the mechanics necessary to make the pistol fire. Condition One would be a correct choice when it is necessary to carry the pistol in a state of readiness for potential imminent use.

Ok...So I see the majority (Basically everyone) Says, Yes..One in the chamber.
Again, My revolver is always loaded when i carry. I just didn't know if it was common practice to carry semi auto in that fashion. I didn't want to be the dumb azz on the forum that shot his balls off.
May have seemed like a dumb question, but isn't this a place of learning? Thanks for all the input guys.

You can't learn if you don't ask, the only dumb question is the one you don't ask. We're all happy to help when the need arises. Especially if you're from Newnan, I might need some backup one day! lol!

EMPTY GUN IS WORTHLESS IF you need it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wait let me chamber a round!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!having trouble wait wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1911 cocked and locked chick bang bang bang. Sorry just the SA coming out in me :) 1911 cocked and locker and air weight 38 backup

two suggestions first, once you make up your mind which way your gonna carry ALWAYS carry that way. and second if you choose one in the pipe use a holster that covers the trigger and has some retention, no matter how you carry there's a holster made for it.

I used to be the same way, always nervous about having a live round in the chamber. But gradually I got used to it and if you handle your weapon safely it wont be a problem. If you need it, youre going to need it right then and there.

You the kinda guy that grabs your AR , goes into the bathroom and yells things at the mirror? YOU TALKING TO ME??!?!?

I like to put on my Oakleys and run around the living room with my AR pretending to be on a secret mission for Blackwater!

I carry chambered and cocked, even if there is no safety and I have a .5 lb hair trigger with no take-up. Worst case scenario I take out my toe or car floorboard. No big deal.

Yeah screw it. I mean youve got like 9 more right? Who cares!

I agree with inkdaddy- what is the real point in carrying if you're not going Condition 1? If you're carrying a pistol, it is generally done for the consideration of self defense. Since it is a pistol, it is generally going to be close-in self defense. If I ever pull out my weapon, it is because I feel that my life is imminently threatened- which means that the BG likely has a gun in view. In this instance, I don't have time to prepare by placing a round in the chamber. I have prepared for this eventuality by carrying and being comfortable with my weapon of choice.

While I carry "Cocked and Locked," we were trained in the army to carry Condition 3. That was standard SOP for the 1911, and if you don't believe that a weapon can be deployed quickly and brought to the ready instantly, then you never ran into an ole school MP.

My best friend is a former Marine MP, who carried a 1911 as his service weapon and he still carries in Condition Three to this day. It's all in how you train...... if you train you will become proficient.
