Afghan did the same to me.I feel ya. I never felt the want or need to carry until I got back from Iraq. I felt naked after coming home.

Why do we/they need ARMED guards at a recruiters office? These soldiers are more equipped than most with all their arms training. Just let them carry!!CONUS bases have both MPs and DoD cops manning the gates, all armed. What you can't do is put an armed 24/7 guard on every single recruiters office and NG or Reserves installation and office, etc. Just isn't possible and still get anything else done. The only practical option would be to consolidate everything into fewer installations and then fortify them. But then other problems will pop up, recruiting will suffer, NG armory coverage and disaster preparations (already gutting because of force reductions) will get even worse. Plus it would turn those into FOBs. Do we really want to go there? Here? Are we really that scared?
The event in TN sucks, just like all of these things do, but you can't run and hide. Your odds of getting killed commuting to work are much higher than ever getting killed by a terrorist, but yet we all do it every day. Suck it up and move on. And carry.

Because you will have a bunch of NDs and troops are not the most stable/reasonable people in the world. Overseas, they are focused on the enemy/mission and confined and controlled (and yet you still have suicides and fragging), in garrison with all of the personal issues... PLUS all the PTSD issues (seen the vet suicide rates?). It would have a far bigger "force protection (preservation)" impact than even regular lone gunman attacks. The cure would be worse than the disease.
But thats not what people want to hear so...
Still disagree though.
